Journal of the Bulgarian Geographical Society was first published in 1933. Its 90 years of history are divided into three main periods according to publishing activity (1933-1942, 1953-1993, after 2018).
After 25 years of interruption in publication, the journal was re-established in 2018 under a key title in Bulgarian with a parallel one in English. Two years later, at the end of 2020, the Management Board of the Bulgarian Geographical Society took the decision to transform it into an international journal published in English language only. To align with the global standards of scholarly publishing, our Editorial board initiated a whole branch of changes including the adoption of a high-technological platform, an international team of subject editors and reviewers, and re-branding of the journal.
The new vision of the journal was built on the understanding that blue and green colors are usually associated with science, nature, trust, and novelty. The texts are a mixture of serif and non-serif fonts in order to show integration between classic and modern vision, and the globe is to represent Geography and Earth Sciences.
All new elements were created from scratch or built on selected elements from the previous identities of the journal. That way not only the ISSN, but the vision itself says that the journal is the successor of the previous one. The previous logo and a broad description of the journal’s visual identity are published in Nedkov et al. 2020, https://doi.org/10.3897/jbgs.2020.43.17.
Re-branding was made by © Hristina Prodanova (2020-2021).
